Jeremi once shared, “I collected my first film thickness reading on the refrigerator in my kitchen with my dad’s banana gauge at the age of 3 and that I climbed on top of the first ground storage tank at the age of 9. Those things are true.

 

What I don’t always tell is how much I idolized my dad, Curtis Day Sr. I wanted to do anything he did. When I took those first film thickness readings, I was also running around checking the lawn mower, my bike, the cars, my toys, and literally anything metal with a coating. I was checking the humidity and dew point in my house, just playing with my dad’s tools from work. The greatest man who ever lived.

 

The year I turned 15, my dad opened his own blasting and painting facility. I begged him to let me work with him after school and he reluctantly did so. After taking the time to teach me everything about the equipment I was working with, just like the gauges, he let me blast. Then after I knew how to rebuild a gun and wash out a spray rig, he let me paint. I worked for him until I was 18. I woke up on my birthday at 4 am to attend a class to get my badge to work in the refineries.

 

From there, I worked my way up from a painter to a foreman to a superintendent and finally got into inspection. I always loved sharing my knowledge with people on the job, just as my dad did with me. I think that’s where it comes from. Just a guy working to provide for his family without ever really knowing how great of a man he really is.”
